The exhibition presents details from the interior of ‘Banya Starinna’ – town of Plovdiv, also known as ‘Chifte banya’. The photographs reflect the perspective of the author who is attracted by the game of shapes and light and from line of the specific decorations in the space.
Nikolay Minchev was born in 1952 in the town of Pazardzhik. He has vast experience in photography. He won first prize on the National Exhibition for Experimental photography in the town of Yambol in 1997, along with numerous other prizes from national forums for photography. His artworks have been displayed in group and solo art exhibitions in the country and abroad.
‘Chifte banya’ or ‘Banya Starinna’, as the people from Plovdiv call it, is a favourite object of creative search for the author. He entered it for the first time after the fire, when the preparation for restoration of the building was beginning.

He documented everything before the restorers entered. After that he took photographs again and again of the changes during the restoration. And this, which started as documentary photography, gradually became a creative search.
The spirit of the old building obsessed his creative senses and he started uncovering its unsuspected beauty, symbols and mysticism. He returned again and again, year after year for discover new unexpected secrets. He has hundreds of images of the ‘banya’ in his archives.
In his career Nikolay Minchev has several awards for photography. He has had solo exhibitions in Plovdiv, Burgas, Kardzhali, Sevlievo, Gabrovo, Lovech, Troyan, Edrine.
One of his remarkable achievements is a series of artistic portraits of artists from Plovdiv, which he presented in his exhibitions ‘They’.
